We don’t really think there are any downsides to being a bookworm, perhaps from how easy it is to curl yourself away and escape into your current read. We do indulge in these bookish delights.
- The new book smell
Nothing quite compares to the smell of a brand-new book. the just off the shelf freshness is undeniably amazing. We first fell in love with new book smell when the Harry Potter series first came out, it was like you could smell the magic. We will occasionally go back to our Harry Potter collections and give them a quick sniff, to just take us back to those Summers spent reading the entire book before school started in September.
- The old book smell
How can we not mention the old book smell, second-hand books and vintage books are our bread and butter. It is almost like you can smell the stories. Many people are turning to pre-loved book retailers not only because the books are considerably cheaper, but the books themselves have their own little stories. You can come across little dedications for birthdays, anniversaries or a sweet get well soon.
- Recommending a book and that person loves it
It’s a little nerve wrecking when you recommend a friend a book, it could go one of two ways, they could hate it, or they come back to you fan-girling over the main character and they go on to continue the series. Is there a better feeling?
- Falling in love with a new series or book
The feeling of where have you been all my life? A new series or book falls into your lap and you are hooked. A great series for this is the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch.

We are told to not judge a book by its cover, but with some book, we really can’t help it! When you find your favourite book, you will then begin to search for the best-looking edition for your collection. we know, we are shallow and judgemental, but some of the classics like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights have fantastic covers that we just fall in love with.
- Bookshelves full of your must-read favourites
We love seeing a stocked bookshelf and there is nothing better than seeing how other arrange their books, by colour, author, alphabetical or even with the spines facing the wrong way!
- A cosy reading corner
A special reading corner, just you, a book and a brew. We love a good book nook and get envious as we browse the web for inspiration for our own reading areas.
