Our Top 10 Harry Potter Characters

Our top 10 Harry Potter characters

By Rebecca Reed, CRM Executive

The Harry Potter Series is something many are obsessed with, so how could we not put together our favourite Harry Potter characters? Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs, Slytherins and Gryffindors will all unite on this one list.

  1. Severus Snape

The potions master, Head of Slytherin and the most intriguing Harry Potter character. Harry and his friends were always dubious of Snape but he always protected Harry due to his love for Lily Potter, this was evident throughout all of Harry’s time as a student at Hogwarts. Snape always had the best things to say; his welcome speech to Potions remains one of our favourite pieces of dialogue in the series, then how can we forget his “always” quote. He was loyal to Dumbledore’s cause even though he seems like a double agent for the death eaters too.

  1. Harry Potter

The main character of the series. Harry Potter, the boy who lived, the boy destined for greatness. He is the son of Lily and James Potter, sadly killed by the wicked Lord Voldemort when Harry was a baby. Unable to kill the baby due to Lily’s love, Voldemort left Harry with a lightning bolt scar on his forehead – little did he know Harry would become a famous name in the wizarding community. A brave, but admittedly rebellious student at Hogwarts, he really does save the day every year, with the help of his friends of course.

  1. Albus Dumbledore

The elderly headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the inspiring figure we all needed as we grew up. With his nuggets of knowledge and his love for Sherbet Lemons, Dumbledore is one of our favourite professors and mentors from J.K. Rowling’s world. Harry really did have the best professors looking out for him.

  1. Rubeus Hagrid

Our love for Hogwarts faculty continues, with the next Big Friendly Giant, Rubeus Hagrid. The Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts and promoted to Care of Magical Creatures professor when Harry was in his third year at Hogwarts. We fell in love with Hagrid after his introduction to the Dursleys – seeing him take Harry under his wing and rescuing him from that horrid family really made our hearts swell. He taught Harry everything he needed to know for his first year at Hogwarts and got him all his supplies. He showed Harry the love and guidance he needed when no one else would.

  1. Hermione Granger

The brains behind the trio. Hermione Granger is without question one of the most intelligent students to grace Hogwarts’ corridors. A know-it-all and quite frankly the most relatable character in this series for bookworms, she was the role-model of many growing up. You will find Hermione, like us, in the library. She saved Harry and Ron many times by just simply researching the problem faced. Every year she did something more heroic. Saving Harry and Ron from the Devil’s Snare in year one, creating a polyjuice potion and working out how the Basilisk was travelling through Hogwarts, those are just to name a few.

  1. Molly Weasley

Who couldn’t love Mumma Weasley? She is the glue that really holds that family together, she wants nothing but the best for her children and she really does succeed in that. Even though money doesn’t quite stretch for new things, she makes do and doesn’t let it bother her in front of her children. She is the most supportive mother and even takes Harry under her wing to make sure that he has the best. I’m also betting she makes the best grandmother too, for Hermione and Ron’s children and Harry and Ginny’s.

  1. Sirius Black

The black dog, Harry’s god-father. Sirius Black was the ray of hope Harry needed in year three. Although he didn’t make his motives clear until quite near the end of the Prisoner of Azkaban. Perhaps snarling and barking at Harry isn’t the best way to go. Sirius managed to retell stories about Harry’s father, James and taught him some valuable lessons about family. In Harry’s short time knowing Sirius and accepting he isn’t alone, Sirius changed Harry for the better, which is why his death was even harder to accept as Harry Potter fans. You are rooting for Harry to hold onto all his people, especially the ones that hold links to his parents, but alas J.K. Rowling had other ideas…

  1. Minerva McGonagall

The head of Gryffindor, and the professor that spoke to the honest truth when it came to Harry, Ron and Hermione’s escapades. Why was it always them? Why did they always find the danger? Professor McGonagall tried her hardest to keep them safe and as Dumbledore’s right-hand lady she wanted to do him proud when Dumbledore sadly met his demise.

  1. Bellatrix Lestrange

Our favourite death-eater. Insane, sadistic and Voldemort’s most loyal follower. Bellatrix Lestrange captured the world’s imagination when she single handily killed Sirius Black and then later the nation’s favourite house-elf Dobby, she then attempts to murder Ginny Weasley in the Battle of Hogwarts. Bellatrix sadly met her match against Molly Weasley, she was the last of the death eaters alive at that moment.

  1. Luna Lovegood

The extremely quirky Ravenclaw with eccentric beliefs and qualities, Luna Lovegood is our final favourite in the Harry Potter series. Luna was often the subject of ridicule and experienced difficulty making friends. Other students gave her the nickname of “Loony Lovegood” and even stole her things and hid them. She didn’t once let them faze her though and choose to be non-judgemental and accepting of the others around her. She was very loyal to her friends in her small circle and stood by Harry when he was outlawed by the Ministry of Magic.
