mary seacole

A Jamaican-born nurse, who overcame racial injustice during the Crimean War. Some say her autobiography was the first-ever book to be published by a black woman in the UK.

2. Who is this?


CLR JamesA historian, journalist, and socialist that led the Pan-African movement. He famously wrote a book called The Black Jacobins.

 

3. Who is this?

ignatius sancho

The first African prose writer whose work was published in the UK.
4. Who is this?

Francis BarberThe Jamaican manservant of Samuel Johnson, later assisting in revising the Dictionary of the English Language.
5. Who is this?


buchi emechetaA Nigerian-born novelist who wrote over 20 books in her lifetime, including The Joys of Motherhood.
